Volunteers at the Y

The core of our YMCA’s existence is due to the generosity of others. When you volunteer at the Y, you take an active role in bringing about meaningful, enduring change in your own community. As a volunteer, you’ll be working with other caring, committed people who want to make a difference. We are fortunate to work worth many community-minded individuals who focus on creating lasting personal and social change for Waynesboro and surrounding areas.

Ways our volunteers make a difference:

  • Serve on our Board of Directors and/or Committees
  • Raise funds to ensure the Y is accessible to all members of the community
  • Help teach kids water safety in our Y swim programs
  • Coach our sports teams
  • Motivate and support youth in building the character strengths, skills, and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health, smart life choices and the pursuit of higher education and meaningful life goals
  • Extend a hand to help senior adults who want to do more, become more, and live healthier lives
  • Advocate for the Y’s efforts to influence policies and initiatives that positively impact societal issues of importance to our whole nation
  • Participate in opportunities to give back and support others in our community

How do I apply?

YMCA program volunteers undergo an interview and training process similar to that of paid staff. This helps you find the best fit for your skills while also ensuring the safety of our members, staff and other volunteers. Contact Jay Parker at ymcaceo@lumos.net or (540) 943-9622 ext. 202 to learn more.
